Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Long time no see! It has been a LONG time since I've been able to post anything up here for everyone. I've had a taxing summer (to say the least) so I apologize for not being very active on here. But I'll bring you all up to date! At least on the art front!

NOW ON TO THE SUMMER!

I've always loved creating things in 3D, probably moreso than flat art, simply because you're bringing something physically to life. A few days ago I decided to teach myself how to crochet dolls and here's the result! More will surely be on the way!

Below is a little doodle of Abby and Duke (being his ever-graceful self)

This summer, a friend and I also started a small business on the side, making these dolls. I've done the original sculpts, then with silicone, made master molds for all the parts, so they can be remade over and over with plastic acrylic and resin. TADA!

And last, but certainly not least; this years' costume!

For my costume this year, as I thought it may be the last in a while due to Co-op next year, and then 4th year proceeding it, I decided to go all out. Because of that, I decided to take on a quadsuit. This suit features a TON of extra features, which includes:

Jointed front arm stilts
Fans in each stilt that turn on and off via a switch
Nearly 15-20 pounds of padding with apholstery foam
Head mounted costume head
LED glowing eyes in the head
Moving jaw in the head
Silicone nose, hand painted and cast resin eyes
Head mounted tether that attaches to my back via straps as the head weighs nearly 10 pounds
and much more!

Progress shots:

Me, utterly exhausted trying to finish this silly costume in time for the convention and competition...

First test run with all the padding (the head has no tether here so I'm struggling to keep it up)

My Masquerade Entry! I was in the Artisan division and took home 2 international awards!

Videos

I'm having trouble uploading my last few animations to blogspot so I'll have to keep working on that. But in the meantime, here are a few of the videos from before Anime North/at AN of my costumes that I found amusing. I know some people I've been talking to have been interested in the work in progress aspects of my costumes, so there's that too. Enjoy!

Dolls, dolls, dolls!

Bunch of Dolls I made for people for Christmas :) They're in the order I made them, so they improve as you go down. The last Fennec Fox was finished last night, and is mine :)

Huge Update/ Happy Holidays!

So since I last updated, I've basically just been crazy busy with school work, so this update is basically to catch up and make this thing up to date :)

My run and walk assignment for animation class.

My lift and toss assignment for animation class.

Here are my storyboards for "Leave Me Alone" motif in storyboarding.

As we do every year, the family and I went to see this year Ross Petty production, of which was "The Wizard of Oz". I've gotta tell you, last year's "Beauty and the Beast" was overall better, but the costume design/character of the scarecrow (now named Fig Newton, or Fig for short) was absolutely brilliant! I couldn't keep my eyes off of him and was even drawing him and taking notes of his costume during the performance. SO simple. SO unbelievable amazingly captivating.

Fig throwing water on to the Wicked Witch. Sadly, it doesn't work, but they melt her with a group hug instead!

Fig <3 I can't say enough about this costume design. Absolutely brilliant.

Ah, yes. And these plays would never seem write without the obligatory drag queen aunt. So great, hilarious.

Splenda, the good witch. Splenda's best line: "I eat doom for breakfast and pass gas in the form of Chuck Norris!" Yes, she went there.

Ross in all his evil, crossdressing glory.

Dorothy and Toto. :3 What a cute pair.

Fig, once again, because I love the guy, and Nap (Napoleon) the cowardly lion.

Little sketch practicing couple scenes with Abby and Duke.

And a little random rhino sketch I did in english class.

I hope you all have had a great Christmas with your loved ones, and may you New Year's be safe, happy and cherished with those around you. <3
